Hey It's The Blog Professor - Your Answerman!

Today's question!
Podcast..............

Here's an important tip, that some of the smartest people tend to overlook: When someone like yours truly shares information with students, say for instance the videos that you will study on this same blog. Normally the first thing that enters your thinking is to try an compare what you think my direction or purpose is based on traditional thinking factors......Whoa Wilbur! That a LARGE miscalculation. As a rule, the people that are capable of locating many of the cutting-edge videos, and similar social media 'rare golden nuggets', are what is referred to as early adopters. You won't catch up to them, just as you won't catch up to your greatgrandparents. Early adopter is another way of saying 'pioneer' or even 'recon'. We now can look back and recognize that around 1997 or 98, what we now refer to as social media was being formulated, noticed and followed by a limited number of 'early adopters or social media pioneers. This absolutely does not mean that we have larger brains or that we're geeks per se. What it does mean though, is that those of us whom keep following blogging and other aspects of digital technology's rise on the internet, without dismissing the growing opportunities that we saw emerging (some people that I started out with in the late 1990's, who taught me how to hold a mouse, have not kept up. And they are just as perplexed as those who never sent an email. Personally I have been very excited about social media's growth since 1997, when I hosted a radio program called 'Sy's Creative World. I interviewed some of today's most recognized internet thinkers in Chicago. Actually I unofficially trained at Triton Colleges instructional computer lab. And I received friendly, open help from a host of mavericks from all corners of Triton's region. Think 'Cheers', but with computers. What a sharp group of eager learners they were! I learned how to upload photos from Nick. It was an easy thing for him to do, but only a precious few people could master, uploading photos, except secretive web masters. I learned about powerpoint from John Franz. He was a frequent student of one of Triton's powerpoint instructors who was a pioneering member of team that  Bill Gate's put together to create powerpoint. And he was always showing me and anyone else who would listen, what he learned from this instructors class. I learned hand and eye coordination from a part-time volunteer kid, named Steve. He moved the mouse like Billy the Kid, could draw. He showed me his technique.
And then there was the chief computer center manager, her name was Ms.Jean Dugal. Simply one of the smartest, least pretentious people that I've ever met. She saw this old Vietnam vet trying to learn what was going on with this computer stuff and she made plenty of space for me. Every question that I had concerning how to use those computers. She got me an answer. There is a lot more to my path concerning how I learned to blog, but the point is that I was taught by great people. And I always give back!
